What We Do
NDS provides a host of courses for deaf people free of cost which are as follows:
- Basic and Intermediary computer classes:
This course is programmed as a way to help the deaf students get entry level jobs. This course is accredited by The NIIT Institute (TNI). On successful completion of the MS Office course, the students are given certificates by TNI. This course is conducted by a certified Deaf teacher.
- Key boarding Skills:
To increase the familiarity of our students with operating computers, and also to increase their motor abilities NDS conducts special keyboarding classes. These comprise working on 'Typing Tutor' software and games related to increasing keyboard letter memory.
- Graphic Designing Course of NIIT:
A faculty from NIIT has designed a special software program for the students in Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, Basics of Animation and Dreamweaver (Web Design). Senior graphic designers from NIIT teach this highly specialized course on a voluntary basis. TNI also gives certificate after the completion of this course.
- English Literacy Classes:
This is to facilitate better communication for the Deaf people with their Hearing counter parts. These classes are taught purely in Sign Language by Deaf teachers. The course material support being given by the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped. We also conduct classes for school going students in English.
- Indian Sign Language Classes:
These classes are held for both the Deaf and Hearing (Normal) People. A certified Deaf teacher conducts this special language course.
- General Knowlege (GK) Classes:
To increase the social awareness of the deaf and increase their perception of the surrounding world, NDS conducts GK classes twice a week.
Besides the above courses, we also organise games of chess and carrom for students during free hours with the aim of increasing the awareness of a healthy competition and sportmanship.
